Past Exploring Enterprise participant Fiona Diamond published her first children’s book, the Milk Whisker. Now the children’s book author sells to a global audience through Amazon.
Fiona came to Ortus without any business experience, though following the programme she participated on and completed, has gone on to start up her own business which is thriving. Fiona commented:
“I didn’t just wake up one day and decide to become a children’s author. I wanted to start my business but wasn’t sure how. That’s when I saw the two-week course advertised with Ortus and I couldn’t believe my luck. It was free and gave me the opportunity to gain valuable education in business related subjects as well as be around like-minded people who had creative ideas of their own.”
She continued by saying:
“The programme really boosted my confidence in the role that I was assuming. It was great to find people who want to help you harness local resources and propel your ideas forward especially when you are new to such ventures”.
Fiona has embraced the popular rise of digital media, illustrating her first book ‘The Milk Whisker’ solely on her iPad. She sells it as an eBook through Amazon, with the option to purchase a hard copy through Amazon Create Space. This has reduced her overhead costs and identified that more children today are using tablet and mobile technology for social purposes.
